I just looked back and realized how bad I’ve been about keeping up with the anecdotes about Mikaela’s antics (though I have gotten better about getting pictures posted in a timely fashion!). So I’m going to start trying to catch up a bit. This first anecdote is about three months old. I originally wrote about it at the time of the incident back in March, but never got around to blogging it:
Wetting the bed – OUR bed
We moved about a month ago, and since we moved we’ve fallen into a pattern of allowing our Mikaela to fall asleep in our bed. Most nights, Miriam ends up falling asleep at the same time, and I move Mikaela to her crib when I turn in. Now that we’ve got a king size bed, sometimes I’ll just leave her there, sleeping between us. There’s plenty of room – we don’t even really notice that she’s there.
A couple of times, I’ve come to bed and discovered that Mikaela has removed her sleeper (she usually sleeps in the footie-pajama type). I’m not sure whether she does it because she’s hot, or if it’s a wholly unconscious thing. Anyway, tonight, Miriam and Mikaela headed off to bed at around 8 p.m. About 9 p.m., I hear Miriam shouting for me to get upstairs over the baby monitor. When I arrived upstairs, I discovered that this time Mikaela didn’t stop when she removed her sleeper. She also pulled off her pull-up, and proceeded to pee in our bed!
She got the mattress topper good and wet – so the next step was figuring out how to deal with that. The king sized mattress topper was too big to fit into our washing machine. So I loaded the topper into the trunk of my car and went looking for a laundry. This is when I discovered that one of the downsides of living in the ‘burbs is that coin laundries all close by 10 p.m. I spent about an hour driving around looking for a place to wash the mattress topper, before giving up and returning home.
I’ll have to take the topper and wash it tomorrow after work. And I think we’ve learned our lesson – Mikaela will be going to sleep in her own bed from now on.
