With ample help from Mikaela, we did finally manage to get packed up and moved, relatively in one piece. We rented a 24-foot U-Haul that was in quite possibly the worst condition of any vehicle I’ve ever driven (and I used to drive a 1967 Buick Special that hadn’t had the shocks changed on it in over 15 years). With lots of help, both physical and logistical (thanks Matt & Dad), we managed to get the truck packed up very tightly with all of our furniture and most of our stuff. But it turned out that even with a 24-foot U-Haul, Miriam’s small SUV, Matt’s pickup and mine and Dad’s large trunks, we couldn’t get everything — by a long shot. So the next day we rented ANOTHER U-Haul (just a 14-footer this time) and, with it packed to the gills, along with several more carloads, we were finally able to get everything but a few odds and ends.
It’s been almost two weeks since we moved, and we’re pretty well settled in. Furniture and appliance deliveries were on time, as were DirecTV and internet installations. We’ve found places for most of our stuff, though the garage is still full of boxes and things to put away
our cars. Once we get things put away enough that the place looks presentable, I’ll post some pictures of the house.
