This past Friday brought yet another trip to the Children’s Mercy ER for a bout with croup. This one was relatively brief compared to the last couple. Just one breathing treatment and a steroid injection and we were ready to come home. We were in the ER shortly after midnight and home by about 3 a.m. Mikaela was feeling much better by Sunday morning – she was happy and playful at Uncle Matt’s birthday breakfast. She still got a cold, but it appears that the worst of it is behind us (for now at least).
In the bigger picture, this experience just confirms that we made the right decision to schedule an exploratory scope procedure for Mikaela with the head of ENT at Children’s Mercy. He wants to get a look at the area in her throat just past her vocal cords and make sure that there is no scar tissue or lesion or anything else that might be narrowing her airway. The procedure is set for August 24th. There’s even a fair chance that she won’t have to be in the hospital overnight.
