Last night was Mikaela’s end-of-the-year dance recital in the White Theater at the Jewish Community Center. Mikaela was VERY nervous heading in to the recital. Her teacher, Miss Maggie, had emphasized in the weeks leading up to the recital how important it was to get their steps right. Mikaela was afraid that meant that Miss Maggie would be angry with her if she made a mistake or forgot something. Luckily, Miriam and Mikaela were able to talk to Miss Maggie before it was time to take the stage and assuage Mikaela’s fears about making a mistake.
When she actually went on, it looked like she was having a good time. It was great that so many people were able to join us for the recital. Mikaela was excited that Grandma Mouse was here from Montana for the show, Grandma Marcia and Zaydie Larry were there, Aunt Judy and Uncle Lloyd came, and Aunt Sarah and Cousin Samantha too. Marcia and Chuck Perkins were disappointed that they couldn’t make it, and left really sweet presents for the kids, and a special card for Mikaela.
Mikaela especially loved dressing up for the show – Miriam did her hair and makeup (even slipping the hairdresser an extra-big tip so that she’d teach Miriam how to do that cool braid Mikaela likes across the front of her hair), with plenty of glitter sparkle added shortly before curtain. And Mikaela was sure that her dress must have cost a million dollars, because it has diamonds on it.
She actually had a mini-tantrum tonight when we told her to get ready for bed, and that she needed to change out of her dance costume and put on some jammies. Her response, “But Miss Maggie said after the performance, we could wear our dance costumes whenever we wanted to!” She was not happy with the explanation that Miss Maggie doesn’t make the rules in our house.

Mikalea: You were right!!! Your dad did take a movie of your recital and Chuckie and I were able to watch it today. What a wonderful performance. I’m so glad we got to see it even though we could not come. Your dress was BEAUTIFUL!!! but it was probably better not to wear it to sleep in so it will stay nice. Love you and see you soon.
