I don’t think I’ve posted about this before, but a tantrum yesterday reminded me that it’s probably worth mentioning. Mikaela is obsessed with shoes. So much so that one of my pet names for her is “Imelda”. Go figure. She has parents who prefer to be barefoot most of the time, but she LOVES shoes. She already has more shoes than any child her age ought to. Right now, I count three pair of sandals, three pair of tennis shoes (though one pair is probably still a little big on her), and two pair of “dressier” shoes (her white sandals and her black clunky shoes). Oh, and of course there are her “boops” – her rubber rain boots with the animals on the toes. And her Tweety Bird slippers. I think that makes 10 pair, assuming I haven’t inherited the counting prevention gene.
Yesterday, I was holding Mikaela and I needed to get something out a cabinet that is part of the computer armoire. Unfortunately, she caught a glimpse of her “sparkly shoes” – that are now about a size and a half too small (we had hidden them there when we discovered that she’d outgrown them, but wouldn’t give them up). That set off the mother of all tantrums. I showed her that they wouldn’t fit. I tried everything I knew to distract her. She just grabbed the shoes and tried to jam them onto her feet herself. She finally cried out her frustration on her mama’s shoulder. I think it’s time that we pack those shoes up for Baby Sam.

Add one to that count. I was at Old Navy yesterday and found some really cute turquoise sandles adorned with a pineapple (like Mikaela’s pink ones with the cherry on them) on sale for $2! Too good a bargain to pass up.
Also, Aunt Martie bought her a pair of puddle jumpers for NEXT year (again on sale, too big a bargain to let go) that have pink flowers all over them.
And – don’t forget those green swim flippers she loves to wear. They caught her attention after watching her favorite video “Splash” where a little blonde baby wears a pair at the beach. She loves to flap around in those, too.
Yesterday I sent Imelda two pair of sandals and one pair of sparkly ruby shoes. Too cute! Enjoy!
