Last summer, Mikaela was sometimes spooked by the cacophony of sing up and sing down at camp. But not this summer. Mikaela has been the Queen of Spirit since the first week of camp - so much so that she got VERY upset when the “little kids” won the spirit stick that first week, instead of Mikaela’s Kangaroos, even though the Kangaroos were MUCH louder. Mikaela was so mad about it that she went and complained to Maxine (the CDC Director), explaining that the other group shouldn’t have won the spirit stick, “just because they’re little.” Mikaela and the Kangaroos have since redeemed themselves, and are frequent winners of the weekly spirit stick. This past Wednesday, Mikaela even earned the honor of carrying the spirit stick to sing down. She was quite proud of herself.
Overall, its been a good summer for Mikaela. She’s had some friends in her group that she missed having in her class this fall (especially Kaia). She LOVES swimming everyday (except for the one day she missed because her shoulders were sore after daddy didn’t make sure that she had sunscreen on the back of her shoulders the day before). And she thinks going to the cafeteria for lunch (instead of having it brought to the classroom on a cart) is very cool.
This past week has been a little rough. In addition to the bad sunburn day, Mikaela had her pre-kindergarten doctor’s visit - which meant FIVE (count ‘em, 5) shots. But she was a trooper, and didn’t try to pull away during the shots. She’s looking forward to our dad-and-kids getaway next weekend. We’re driving to St. Louis to get together with some of Daddy’s friends and their kids. Mikaela is especially excited to see her St. Louis friends, Maddie and Jack, again.

Hey, Mikaela - I think the CDC and the JCC should use you in a TV commercial. Anyone who heard your cheer would want to go to camp there for sure - and be a KANGAROO! GO KANAGROOS!!
Love & miss you!
