Looks like we’re going shopping for a new over-the-range microwave this weekend. Last night, when Miriam put some broccoli in the microwave for a quick steam, it made a very loud POP sound. And though the clock stayed on, and the microwave made sounds like it was cooking when we tried it afterward, things in the microwave didn’t get any warmer. Oh well. It’s an unplanned expense, but that microwave is probably original to the house, so at 15 years old or so, it was probably on borrowed time anyway.

The same thing happened to my microwave - twice. You can get it fixed for about $100, but new microwaves don’t cost much more than that.
Did you check the breaker switch. That happened to ours and it was the breaker. It did finally die after a few months anyway. I am glad that no one was hurt. Life span for a microwave is 10-15 years.
