Mikaela had a little accident at the CDC today. She was playing on the playground and she and her buddy Logan collided HARD - Mikaela’s mouth into Logan’s head. There was concern that Logan might have a concussion from the impact, though she appears to be doing OK now. We managed to get an emergency appointment with the dentist to check out Mikaela’s teeth. All in all, the exam results were better than we could have expected. We were most worried about Mikaela’s two front teeth, as they were VERY loose. Luckily, the x-ray showed the the roots of those front teeth were already retracting, in preparation for falling out on their own. The adult teeth behind them were undamaged. The dentist says that the two front teeth will fall out and be replaced by adult teeth pretty-much naturally. The incisor on Mikaela’s right side next to her front teeth is also a bit loose, but the dentist says that one should tighten back up on its own just fine.
For now, Mikaela is getting ibuprofen for the pain and eating only soft foods (or food cut up into really small pieces). She struggled to eat any dinner (and even gave up trying to eat ice cream), but a few hours later managed to eat a thick cherry milkshake. The dentist said she needs to take it easy for the next 3-5 days, after which she should be feeling much better.

Update: Mikaela seems to be doing much better this morning. She says that her teeth don’t hurt at all, and she hasn’t even had any ibuprofen. We’re still being careful about what she eats - she had peanut butter toast for breakfast, but we cut it into bite-sized pieces and she ate it with a fork so she could get it past her front teeth. The swelling/bruising of her gums looks mostly cleared up, and that’s probably the biggest reason for the improvement.
