As we sat down for dinner tonight, Jonathan started throwing an incredible fit. He was in his high chair, but he was trying to push the high chair tray away, and refused to take a bite of his chicken & rice casserole (which is usually one of his favorite meals). We couldn’t figure out what he was so upset about. He didn’t want a drink of water. He wasn’t in pain.
Then it dawned on Miriam. At daycare, he doesn’t sit in a highchair to eat. He sits at a table in a chair. So I took the tray off of his high chair, turned the chair, and pulled it up as close to the table as possible. Miriam tried to give him a bite of the casserole — and Jonathan grabbed the fork. He fed himself the bite on the fork, and refused to give the fork back. He insisted that Miriam put the plate down in front of him, and he proceeded to feed himself.
It’s like he just all of a sudden demanded, “quit treating me like a baby!”
