Two weeks ago, at Mikaela’s basketball game, the kids were having a difficult time with the concept of defense - there was too much pushing and grabbing. So they told the kids that there were not to try and steal the ball, just get in the way and hold their hands up to block shots. Then, last week, they worked on defense during the clinic session that precedes games.
Mikaela developed her own, unique, defensive tactics. First, while defending her friend Ian, she tried to talk him out of the ball. She said, “Come on Ian, just give me the ball, it’s OK” in her sweetest voice. And it was working, too, until one of Ian’s teammates shouted to him, “No, Ian!”
Then, later, when Mikaela accidentally knocked the ball away from Ian, she picked it up and give it back to him. I guess she still has a ways to go in her understanding of the game of basketball.
