Miriam took Jonathan to get his nine-month portraits taken last week (just a tad late, oh well). The good news is that, once again, it looks like we got great proofs to choose from courtesy of JCPenney’s Portrait Studio. You can see all of them in our Photo Gallery. The not-so-good news is that they’ve changed over to digital photography at JCPenney’s Photo Studio, and along with that change are some incredibly annoying new policies and practices. First, they schedule appointments every 15 minutes, which means they’re ALWAYS running late. Second, after the pictures are taken, a sales associate reviews the digital proofs with you for order placement. But you can’t just look at the proofs as taken by the photographer. They’re software forces them to spend 20 minutes or so creating various special effect/customized photo packages for your review. So on top of running behind from scheduling appointments too close together, there’s a further delay/lag while waiting for a sales associate for run through the special packages, even though you assure them that you’re ONLY ordering regular portraits from the proofs.
We’ll probably go back again, just because we’ve had such good luck with the pictures they’ve taken for us. But this most recent experience is definitely pushing us to consider other options.
If anyone is interested in ordering pictures for themselves directly from JCPenney’s, you can access the proofs online at SmilesByWire. The “Customer Name” you need to fill in is Miriam Rittmaster.
