Mikaela has her own unique concept of time, but I think I’ve finally got it figured out.
Yesterday = Any time prior to the present. “Yesterday, when we went to Grandma Mouse on the airplane . . .” (the trip actually took place back in August).
Today = Any time in the next 24 hours. When Mikaela is asked to pick out her clothes for school the next day, and reminded that she needs to pick a pants outfit, because she has swimming, she will often respond with a smile, “Today, we have swimming today?” She is satisfied if we respond, “Yes, today when you wake up.”
Tomorrow = Any time in the future, beyond the next 24 hours. For the last two months, the baby has been coming home “tomorrow”.
And as those three options, in Mikaela time, actually cover all of the possibilities, those are the only time references that she uses.
