A brand new day!

WHEW! NOW we’re getting a chance to enjoy our vacation trip. Just to fill in a few blanks from last night’s “post from the road” - after waiting for about an hour for the arrival of the bus that the airline said was coming to take us from Philadelphia to New York, they announced that they had not been able to arrange for busses after all. It was at that point that Miriam’s early friendly interactions/commisserations with the flight attendants paid off. One of them was able to get Midwest Airlines to sign off on our taxi to New York.

The cab ride had it’s own “issues” - it was hot and muggy and the air conditioning didn’t really work to blow cool air into the back of the cab. So an overtired and overheated Mikaela got carsick and threw up on herself. We had the cabbie pull over and right there on the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike we got Mikaela cleaned up and changed into a night shirt. We left the soiled dress behind on the Turnpike - we still had a good hour’s drive to go. Mikaela was fine after getting sick, and dozed on and off for the rest of the ride.

We finally got checked into the hotel at 2 a.m. The Embassy Suites was WONDERFUL about checking us in over the phone and holding our room for us. We have a beautiful view of the Hudson River - I’ll get a picture before we leave. I was going to snap one this morning, but it was too overcast at the time for it to come out clearly. We slept in just a little this morning, then enjoyed a great breakfast that’s included with our room rate. Then it was off via subway to midtown so that Mikaela could see that there are, indeed, toys in New York. We went to the Mega-Toys R Us store, and Mikaela got a cute miniature Cinderella playset (it’s the first one we’ve seen that includes the mice, Gus and Jacque). Then it was a good and surprinsingly reasonably-priced deli lunch and back downtown via subway for a rest. Mikaela and Miriam and napping soundly, and I’m relaxing and cooling off - resting up for dinner tonight with Aunt Bunny.

Finally, we’re getting to enjoy our vacation!
