Frog Pool + Lightning = Disappointment

Such a wonderful smile :)  But you’d never have thought we had a chance as a smile like that just a few minutes earlier.  Mikaela has been BEGGING us to take her to the “Frog Pool”, which is the swimming pool at the JCC (officially Waterama), since right about the first Spring thaw.  The clouds looked like they were clearing as we were getting home from work/school, so we agreed that we’d go back to the pool after dinner.

We had a simple, quick, dinner and then got Mikaela changed into a bathing suit.  We packed up our swim bag and headed for the JCC.  And it was still looking pretty good.  As I pulled into a parking place, I noticed one bank of dark clouds int he distance.  Uh-oh.  This might be a short trip to the pool.  Then, just as I opened the car door, we heard the announcement.  “Everyone needs to get out of the pool.  The pool is closing because of lightning.”

Poor Mikaela was crushed. She was almost inconsolable.  But a trip to Dairy Queen and one chocolate-dipped vanilla cone later, at least she was no longer sobbing.  And with the promise of a bath with a fizzy ball, followed by an episode of Blue’s Clues, she was a happy kid again.

Tomorrow is the Camp Orientation meeting, but we’ll try again on Thursday if it’s warmed back up enough.  I can pretty much guarantee that she’ll be asking to go every day between now and when we do get there.  She does love that Frog Pool.
