The adjustment to the Jewish Community Center’s Child Development Center has been a little rough for Mikaela. She’s coming from a very small, intimate setting at Mina’s where she was the biggest kid and had been there the longest - she was darn near the teacher’s assistant. Now, at the JCC, she’s in a room with 15 kids instead of 4, and there are probably 60+ in the whole CDC. And instead of being the biggest kid, she’s one of the smaller ones (because she’s in a room with young 3 year-olds). Drop-off and pick-up time have been the hardest. And a couple of mornings, she’s started wailing that she didn’t want to go to camp even before we got in the car.
But things appear to be looking up. She’s had two "happy" days in a row according to the reports she brings home. And pickups have gone better the last couple of days. But we knew things were getting better at bedtime Tuesday night. When we say bedtime prayers, we always end by asking Mikaela what she wants to thank God for. Most nights, she thanks God for a relative she talked to on the phone that night or the restaurant where we had dinner or the movie she watched. Tuesday night, she thanked God for camp. Whew. Hopefully that means we’re on our way.
